Prof Innas Ali no more


Noted physicist National Professor M Innas Ali passed away due to old age complications at his Shyamoli residence yesterday at the age of 94.
After two namaz-e-janazas at Dhaka University Central Mosque and Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, his body was taken to the physics department of the university where his former colleagues and students paid their last respects to the acclaimed physicist.
Later, he was laid to rest at Banani graveyard in the capital.
Prof Innas left behind two daughters, one son and a host of admirers to mourn his death.
Born in Netrakona in September 1, 1916, Prof Innas had won Swadhinata Padak in 1991. He was the president of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and vice chancellor of Chittagong University.
Prof Innas was also a founding member of University Grants Commission and founding chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.
In a condolence message, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said the nation would remember him forever for his outstanding contributions.
State Minister for Science and Information and Communication Technology Yeafesh Osman, Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam and President of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Prof M Shamsher Ali also condoled the death of Prof Innas.
They prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

His Qulkhwani will be held on Friday after Maghrib prayers on the Atomic Energy Commission premises.
