Shahadat Chy's 2nd anniversary of death today

Today is the second anniversary of death of eminent journalist, editor and freedom fighter Shahadat Chowdhury.
The veteran journalist breathed his last at Birdem in the city on this day in 2005.
Born on July 28, 1943 in Khulna, the veteran journalist completed his matriculation from Dhaka Graduate High School and did graduation in painting from the Institute of Fine Arts.
He was one of the 12 children of Abdul Haq Chowdhury, a district judge, and Jahanara Chowdhury.
From his student life, Chowdhury was engaged in creative writing in different newspapers and magazines. He was also involved with Kochikanchar Mela, a children's cultural organisation.
He joined the War of Liberation in 1971 and was a member of Crack Platoon, one of the famous guerrilla teams inside Dhaka during the war.
Chowdhury was an aide to Sector-2 Commander Khaled Mosharraf during the liberation war. He also took part in guerrilla wars as a coordinator.
Chowdhury edited a magazine namely 'Lorai,' which depicted freedom fighters' successes during the liberation war.
His ancestral house at Hatkhola in the city was one of the bases of the freedom fighters. Chowdhury was also one of the architects of Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee.
After the Liberation War, Chowdhury chose journalism as a weapon to change the society.
He joined weekly Bichitra in 1972 as an assistant editor. Later, Chowdhury became the editor of the magazine until the government stopped its publication in 1997.
In 1998, when Shapthaik2000 and fortnightly Anandodhara were published under his leadership, they became popular soon enough.
