7 Satkhira villages flooded again

Seven villages in Gabura and Burigoalini unions in Shyamnagar upazila have been flooded again as Kabodak and Kholpetua rivers burst their embankments on Tuesday.
The affected villages are Nebubunia, Jelekhali and Gabura in Gabura union and Porakatla, Durbati and Bhamia in Burigoalini union.
Over 9,000 people have been affected by the fresh flood. Many of them have taken shelter on high lands and educational institutions.
The affected people said about 35 yards of the Kabodak embankment collapsed at Jelekhali while over 200 yards of the Kholpetua embankment were washed way by water.
Burigoalini Union Parishad Chairman Asim Joardar said the embankments breached as Water Development Board (WDB) did not reconstruct the damaged portions.
He said Aman crops on abut 700 acres were damaged by flood water that also washed away shrimps from at least 150 enclosures.
Satkhira WDB executive engineer Mujibar Rahman told this correspondent that WDB authorities were trying to reconstruct the breached embankments.
