Forever ablaze in memory

To generate interest in the history of the Liberation War among the post-war generations and to reiterate the call for trial of war criminals, Bangladesh Enterprise for Development and Security Studies have arranged a three-day-long book fair along with a film festival on Liberation War. Starting from March 31, the events are on at the premises of Central Public Library, Shahbagh.
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Capt (retd) ABM Tajul Islam formally inaugurated the festival at Shawkat Osman auditorium of the library followed by a discussion presided over by Nasiruddin Yousuff, president of Shammilito Shangskritik Jote. One of the trustees of Liberation War Museum, Mofidul Haque, also spoke on the occasion.
"We are collectively liable to the nation as we are yet to try the war criminals," Mofidul Haque said.
ABM Tajul Islam said, "The government is determined to try war criminals in a way that it will carry a positive message for people around the globe."
Nasiruddin Yousuff elaborately discussed the ground of conscience of Liberation War. He mentioned with dates the roles of the cronies of the Pakistani army -- Razakar, Al Badr and Al Shams. "The war is still on. We must defeat these anti-Liberation War forces through united efforts," he said.
Two films "Ekatturer Jishu" and "Shey Kotha Boley Jai" directed by Nasiruddin Yousuff and Fauzia Khan respectively were screened at the festival.
"Ekatturer Jishu" is based on a story by Shahriar Kabir. This movie stands out for its unusual story and high calibre performance by versatile actor Humayun Faridee. The story follows a Christian priest and his experiences during the Liberation War.
"Shilalipi," "Agami," "Rabeya" and "Aguner Paroshmini" directed by Shamim Akhtar, Morshedul Islam, Tanvir Mokammel and Humayun Ahmed respectively were also screened yesterday on the occasion.
Today the festival will end through screening three films -- "Muktir Kotha," "Kaan Petey Roi" and "Joyjatra" directed by Tareque Masud, Mofidul Haque and Tauquir Ahmed respectively.
Liberation War Museum, Laser Vision, Mawla Brothers, Shahitya Prokash, Ityadi Grontho Prokash, Banolata Prokashoni and others are participating in the fair with their publications (books and CDs).
