E-post services launched

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated two electronic services--Electronic and Mobile Money Order and Postal Cash Card to improve digitisation of services to the people.
Launching the electronic service at Ganobhaban yesterday evening, she transferred Tk 5,000 to the caretaker of her Tungipara residence Boikantha Babu through the mobile money order.
Earlier, the PM released commemorative postal stamps on the occasion of the Independence and National Day.
The Postal Department published a miniature sheet of four commemorative stamps of Tk five denomination and one commemorative stamp of Tk six denomination.
Speaking on the occasion, Hasina said she is extremely happy that the postal department has achieved much progress in establishing her election slogan of “Digital Bangladesh” through the introduction of the electronic and mobile money order services alongside the postal cash card.
She hoped that the two electronic services would make a big contribution to the national economy.
“What's most important is that rural people in remote villages who are victims of the digital divide will be able to receive money sent by their children or brothers and sisters from urban areas quickly,” she said.
The premier said the present government will diversify its services to the people by utilizing the large network of nearly 10,000 post offices across the country, adding that the postal department will be made more efficient and service-oriented.
Hasina said the government has undertaken a project to allow 8,500 post offices to operate as e-centres. This will help the post offices to take advantage of new trends for the public welfare.
Post and Telecommuni-cation Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, its Secretary Sunil Kanti Bosh and PM's Office Secretary Mollah Wahiduzzaman were present.
