Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry yesterday formed a human chain in front of the deputy commissioner's office and submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through the deputy commissioner demanding installation of pipeline to supply gas to the district.
Addressing a rally in front of the DC's office, the speakers urged the government to include the district in gas pipeline installation project.
They said gas supply from Rajshahi to Chapainawabganj could be possible by constructing only 48 kilometres pipeline.
Sonamasjid land port in the district plays an important role in countries economy. If gas supply is ensued, businessmen will show their interest in setting up more industries here, the speaker said.
They also demanded proper maintenance of Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi rail route, which has been in deplorable condition for long.
The chamber leaders also urged the government to immediately introduce Chapainawabganj--Dhaka intercity train. They stressed the need for dredging in the Mohananda River for its navigability.
