BTV off air for 3 hrs

The state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) in the country's 36 years of history had to suspend its transmission for the first time for nearly three hours yesterday due to power outage.
According to a BTV source, the transmission remained suspended from 11:40am to 2:30pm as the power generator of the state-run television exhausted at 11:40am. However, the transmission resumed at about 2:30 pm.
Despite repeated attempts, high official of BTV were not available for comment.
Anxious viewers across the country faced difficulty in getting information about the death and devastation caused by the cyclone that lashed the country's south and southwestern regions at midnight on Thursday.
Due to power outage, many cable operators also failed to provide satellite TV service yesterday.
Many worried citizens phoned UNB central news desk to know about the trail of devastation caused by the cyclone.
