Ziauddin appointed ambassador-at-large

The government has appointed former ambassador Mohammad Ziauddin as an ambassador-at-large (special envoy) with the rank and status of a state minister.
The Cabinet Division issued an official notification to this end on November 22.
The retired diplomat during his long career served in different important positions at home and abroad, including Chief of Protocol at the Foreign Ministry and as Ambassador in Italy.
Mohammad Ziauddin, who was actively involved with Awami League's foreign affairs sub-committee, is the fourth ambassador to enjoy the rank of state minister.
Earlier, the government appointed three envoys with the rank of state ministers -- Bangladesh Ambassador in Washington Akramul Qader, High Commissioner to London Sayeedur Rahman Khan and High Commissioner to New Delhi Tariq Ahmad Karim.
Besides, academician and political scientist Gowher Rivzi was earlier appointed as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's foreign affairs adviser with the rank of a cabinet minister.
