Kagmari Conference

Govt urged to allow convention

Leaders of National Committee to Observe the 50th Anniversary of Kagmari Conference at a press conference yesterday urged the government to allow them to hold a three-day convention on February 7-9.
Speaking at the press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity auditorium in the city, Committee Secretary Syed Irfanul Bari said the government didn't let them organise the convention on November 15-17.
Terming the move 'unfortunate', he said they wanted to disseminate the anti-imperialist ideology of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani through the convention.
During the convention they would hold seminar on the ideology of Maulana Bhasani, organise cultural programmes that would include Jatra, Palagan, lathi khela, etc.
Documentaries on Maulana Bhasani, directed by countries eminent filmmakers like Tanvir Mokammel, Chashi Nazrul Islam and Syed Salahuddin Zaki, would also be screened at the convention, he said.
A memorial book on Maulana Bhasani will also be published on the occasion.
President of the Observance Committee Language Veteran Abdul Matin, columnist Badruddin Omar and Engineer Sheikh Muhammad Shahidullah were also present at the press conference.
