Bangabandhu Murder

Lutfa Taher, JSD deny Taher's link

Lutfa Taher, widow of Colonel Abu Taher, and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) yesterday strongly protested the remarks of Lt Col Khandaker Abdur Rashid (Retd), in which the condemned killer in Bangabandhu murder case linked late Taher to the assassination of Bangabandhu.
Rashid, in an interview with Channel i broadcast in the small hours of Wednesday, claimed that Colonel Taher and late Ziaur Rahman were involved in masterminding the murder of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Expressing surprise at Rashid's comment, Lutfa in a statement said the convicted killer is trying to divert public attention by making false statement at a time when the countrymen are vocal for establishing democracy and trial of war criminals.
She regretted that even an electronic media broadcast his comments, adding that Rashid's is an attempt to undermine Taher's image and distort history.
"The false and fabricated statement about Taher is the first of its kind and I believe it's part of a deep conspiracy", the statement read.
Swatting off Rashid's claim, Lutfa said Col Taher was not ousted from the army, he rather resigned willingly on September 22, 1972.
Meantime, JSD President Hasnaul Haque Inu and General Secretary Syed Jafar Sajjad described Col Rashid's remark as 'blatant falsity'.
In a statement, they said the 'self-declared' killers of Bangabandhu never thought of facing trail for their felony. They even took a pride in identifying themselves as the killers of Bangabandhu.
The killers are trying to shift their blame on somebody else in a bid to confuse the people as their execution nears, the JSD leaders said adding that the beneficiaries of the grisly murder are up to glorying the condemned killers like Col Rashid.
