BNP deplores PM's silence at Saifur's death

The BNP leaders yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina showed her 'narrow mindedness' by not conveying any condolence message on the death of country's longest-serving finance minister Saifur Rahman.
They also alleged that the government showed its 'inferior attitude' towards Saifur Rahman by not burying him with due state honour despite his notable contribution to the country.
"There are some people of different professions who work for the country. They should not be considered on partisan basis. No one would be inspired to work for the country if anyone's contribution is not recognised," BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain said.
He was addressing a discussion meeting to mourn the sad demise of Saifur Rahman who died on Sunday in a road accident at Brahmanbaria.
The three-day programme announced by BNP to mourn the death of Saifur Rahman ended yesterday.
Delwar presided over the meet organised by BNP at Mohanagar Natto Mancho in the capital.
The presence of party leaders and workers were poor yesterday, at the last day's programme. Even many senior leaders of the party were not present at the discussion meeting.
Abdullah Al Noman said people's love and respect to Saifur Rahman prove what kind of man he was but the government showed inferiority complex by not burying him with state honour.
Goyeshwer Chandra Roy said it is unfortunate that the prime minister did not send any condolence message at his death and it should not be a part of political culture.
Moazzem Hossain Alal said prime minister does not know how to express sympathy to the death of a human being.
Party leaders Prof Moniruzzaman Mian, journalist Shafiq Rehman, Barkatullah Bulu, among others, took part in the discussion.
