Nazrul grandeur shines in Mymensingh
The three-day national level celebrations marking the 115th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, at Darirampur Nazrul Mancha in Trishal, ends today.
The celebrations, organised by the Cultural Affairs Ministry and Mymensingh District administration, began on May 25.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the celebrations as chief guest with Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in the chair.
Cultural affairs secretary Ranajit Kumar Biswas, deputy commissioner of Mymensingh, Mustakim Billah Faruqui and Mymensingh Police Superintendent Moinul Haque addressed the opening ceremony, among others. Poet Mohammad Nurul Huda also delivered a speech.
The chief guest said Nazrul was a gifted poet who inspired people in the struggle against injustice in society.
Nazrul, a fiery voice against fundamentalism, enriched Bengali literature through his voluminous output, said the chief guest.
Asaduzzaman Noor said Nazrul songs had always inspired freedom-loving people, particularly during the War of Liberation.
Vested quarters are trying to divide the nation through trying to spread fundamentalism among the common people, but we must be alert against the ill-motivated quarters disrupting the non-communal harmony upheld by Nazrul all his life, the minister added.
Earlier, a three-day book fair marking the celebrations got underway. A total of 25 stalls by different organisations including Nazrul Institute, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Bangla Academy were set up at the fair. A three day Nazrul Mela was an important feature of the celebrations.
Among others, eminent Nazrul artistes Khairul Anam Shakil and Shaheen Samad rendered songs at the inaugural session while Jayanto Chattapadhyay recited Nazrul's poem “Bidrohi”, before a huge audience.
The students of Music Department of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Trishal rendered a chorus themed “Shotokonthe Nazrul” as the inaugural of the cultural programme.
Dr. Nuzhat Choudhury and poet Rubina Azad emceed the inaugural session.
Marking the birth anniversary of the Rebel Poet, a three-day celebration also opened at JKKNIU on Sunday.
Nazrul, born at village Churulia of Burdwan district in West Bengal on May 25, 1899 stayed for about a year in his boyhood at village Darirampur in Trishal and studied at Darirampur High School.
