Muggers shoot 4 for Tk 30 lakh in capital

Muggers took away around Tk 30 lakh from two officials of a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) after shooting them at the capital’s Kalyanpur this afternoon.

Their car driver and an ansar member who was on security of the officers also sustained bullet injuries in the incident, police said.

According to Mirpur police, a gang of five armed miscreants on two motorcycles intercepted the NGO officials -- Shamsur Rahman and Zakaria -- near the BRTC bus depot in Kalyanpur around 1:00pm and snatched away the money from them.

Officials at Mirpur Police Station said Rahman and Zakaria along with Billal Hossain, an ansar member, were going to their Panthapath Head Office by a private car after withdrawing the money from a branch of Islami Bank in Darussalam area.

The snatchers managed to flee the spot after firing at the four.

The four were rushed to a local clinic from where three of them, except Zakaria, were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

A duty officer at Mirpur Police Station told The Daily Star that they had received the information about the snatching and sent a police team to take necessary legal measures.
