Muggers in guise of detectives snatch Tk 28 lakh in Jhalakathi

Muggers in guise of detectives snatched away Tk 28 lakh from two staffers of bKash Ltd, a subsidiary of Brac Bank, in Jhalakathi this afternoon.

The bKash employees on a motorbike were going to Kathalia upazila from the district headquarters around 3:30pm to distribute the money among local agents, said Halim Talukdar, a sub-inspector of Jhalakathi Police Station.

A group of people identifying themselves as members of Detective Branch of police stopped them on their way in Chhottorkanda area in Sadar upazila, the police official told our Jhalakathi correspondent.

The miscreants then took the bKash staffs to Shekherhat area, 16 kilometres away from the spot, by a microbus and left them blindfolded after taking the money from their possession, he added.

Later, locals rescued them and communicated the incident to the district headquarters of bKash and law enforcers.
