BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today again expressed her determination to continue the ongoing anti-government movement until their demand is fulfilled.
She also called upon the international community and democratic countries to pay their heed to the prevailing political situation in Bangladesh which is passing through a critical time.
“We have enforced the movement not to go to power but to uphold the democracy, ensure people’s fundamental and human rights, justice and rule of law,” Khaleda said in a press statement this afternoon.
“I am ready to face any consequences as our backs have been pushed against the wall. We have no alternative to the movement,” she said.
Not only Bangladesh but also the whole region will be affected if the prevailing situation is prolonged, apprehended the former prime minister.
“We have been calling upon the government for the last one year to hold a dialogue to create a congenial atmosphere for an inclusive national election but they did not pay any attention,” she added.
“Let alone paving the way for a dialogue, the government has intensified its repression on the leaders and activists of the BNP-led 20-party alliance to hang on to power,” Khaleda said.
Holding the government responsible for the ongoing arson attacks on vehicles, the BNP chief said, “We don’t believe in evil politics which put the lives of citizens in risk.”
“We will not indulge ourselves in politics of killing, neither had we done it in the past,” she said.
Khaleda Zia said she will never bow down even if faced with “immoral pressure”.
