Move to safe place, expats in Iraq, Libya told
The government has advised Bangladeshi migrants, who are working in risky areas in violence- torn Libya and Iraq, to move to safe places until stability returns there.
While the reporters asked about the government’s steps, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain today said the government was closely monitoring the security issue of the Bangladeshis in the two labour-receiving countries.
“We know our people in Libya and Iraq are now working in security threat. So, we are in close touch with our embassies in those two countries. We will take effective action timely if the situation requires,” he added.
More than 30,000 Bangladeshis in Libya and over 20,000 others in Iraq are in security risks as the two conflict-torn countries are facing internal conflicts among different involving forces.
After the end of a programme in a hotel in the capital, the minister said they were talking to the employers of the Bangladeshis in these two countries to take step to ensure security of the migrants.
Meanwhile, around 3000 migrants in Libya were moved from Tripoli and Benghazi to other places due to recent intensive clashes between the rebels and the government forces, Khandker Mosharraf said.
Besides, 169 Bangladeshis working at a South Korean company in Tripoli have already been granted six months leave due to security risk, he mentioned.
Asking about 180 Bangladeshis’ confinement at a company in Najaf city of Iraq, Khandker Mosharraf said they were discussing the migrants’ employer to ensure their alternative employment.
The 180 migrants have been suffering since last May at Abu Torab Housing Project under a Turkey company without any work and salary.
Career Overseas Consultants Ltd, a Bangladeshi recruiting agency sent these workers last May.
