Mom to die for killing son

A Bagerhat court today sentenced three people including a mother to death in connection with killing a child in 2005.

Those who have been awarded capital punishment are victim’s mother Latifa Begum, 34, wife of Eku Biswas of Nagarkandi village of Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat, Monir Molla, 44, son of Ayen Uddin Molla of the same village, and his sister Nazma Begum, 33, reports our Bagerhat correspondent. 

Judge SM Solaiman of the District and Sessions Judge’s Court pronounced the verdict this noon.

Latifa and Monir killed one and half a year-old Dipjol following a extramarital affairs between them.

Nazma has been proved to provoke them in this connection, the court observed after hearing seven witnesses and examining records.

According to the case statement, the relation between Eku and Latifa couple began deteriorating over robbing money of Eku’s sister Maku Begum apart from Latifa’s relation with Monir.

Dipjol went missing on April 12, 2005 when Eku went to outside of the home. In the following morning, the body of the kid was recovered from a nearest pond, the statement said.

Later on October 29, Eku lodged a murder case with Mollahat police station against Monir and his sister Nazma.

After investigation, Md Nazibul Haque, a sub-inspector of Mollahat police station, placed the charge sheet on May 10, 2006 accusing Latifa, Monir and Nazma.

Bagerhat court public prosecutor Sheikh Mohammad Ali and advocate Farid Ahmed placed arguments on behalf of Eku and the accused respectively.
