Five fishermen, who went missing after a fishing boat capsized at Bangla Channel in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar, were rescued this evening.

The boat sank after being hit by a tourist ship around 3:30pm, Abu Taher, president of Teknaf Fishing Boat Owners Association.

Other fishermen rescued their fellows around two and a half hours after the incident, he told our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.

The association sent three trawlers to rescue the missing fishermen. The capsized boat still remains untraced.   

The victims, whose identities could not be known immediately, were taken to a local hospital in Saint Martin’s Island.

Sea Truck, a ship of Care Sindabad, on its way to Teknaf from Saint Martin’s Island hit the fishing boat between Teknaf and Saint Martin’s Island around 3:30pm, leaving all five fishermen missing, said Sub-Inspector Delwar Hossain, in-charge of Saint Martin’s Police Camp.
