A Dhaka court today granted a two-day fresh remand for Jahidur Rahman Khan, a sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station, in a case filed in connection with the custodial death of garment-waste trader Mahbubur Rahman Sujan.

However, Nasim Sheikh, a source of the detained cop, gave confessional statement before another court today.

Metropolitan magistrate Ashok Kumar Biswas recorded the statement of Nasim while Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarty sent SI Sujon for remand after Inspector of Detective Branch of police Nibaron Chandra Barman, also investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a three day remand prayer.

Rakibul Islam, an SI and an operation officer at Mirpur Police Station, filed the case with the police station on July 17, a day after the arrest of Jahid who allegedly tortured Sujan to death.

Jahid was picked up at Rupnagar of Mirpur in the capital after the autopsy report mentioned that Sujan had died of torture.

Mirpur police also detained Nasim after going through the CCTV footage at the police station.

SI Jahid had picked up Sujan, his wife Lucy and their five-year-old son Rabbi from their Shankar home in the wee hours of July 13. Jahid, who went to Sujan's house to extort money, tortured Sujan at his house, in the police van and at Mirpur Police Station, according to Sujan's family members. Rabbi and Lucy were allowed to leave in the morning.
