The High Court today granted anticipatory bail to 22 BNP leaders and activists including Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin and Taimur Alam Khandker for four weeks in two separate cases.

The court granted them bail after hearing separate bail petitions filed by the accused.

Nasir got bail in a defamation suit filed by freedom fighter Shawkat Ali Khan alias Sundar Khan from Gopalganj, because the BNP leader was present at the programme where BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman termed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman “a top Razakar” on December 16 last year.

The case was filed with the court of chief judicial magistrate in Gopalganj on December 22, AKM Ehsanur Rahman, a lawyer for the accused leaders, told The Daily Star.

He said Taimur and 20 BNP leaders and activists of Narayanganj got bail in a case filed with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station on charges of vandalising vehicles and blasting bombs during blockade on January 9.

The accused petitioners appeared before the HC bench of Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice Kashefa Hussain, seeking bail in the cases.
