A Dhaka court today rejected bail petition of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and sent him to jail in connection with Riazul Haque Khan Milky murder case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Anwar Sadat came up with the order after Tipu, AL general secretary of Motijheel thana unit, surrendered before the court and sough bail.

Meanwhile, ABM Siddiqur Rahman, assistant superintendent of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and also investigation office of the case, submitted before the court a 10-day remand prayer for Tipu.

The court fixed September 23 for hearing the prayer. Milky, an organising secretary of Jubo League's Dhaka city (south) unit, was shot dead allegedly by SM Zahid Siddique Tarek alias "killer" Tareq, joint secretary of the unit of the pro-Awami League party, before a Gulshan Shopping Mall in the capital on July 30 last year. The scene was captured by the mall's surveillance camera.

Tarek was later killed in a “shootout” between his associates and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).

Rapid Action Battalion on April 15 pressed charges against 11 people, mostly Jubo League men, in the murder case filed by Milky's brother.

On June 9 this year, Maj Rashedul Haq Khan, brother of Milky and also complainant of the murder case, submitted a naraji (no confidence) petition challenging the charge sheet saying that the investigation officer submitted it dropping the names of Tipu and six other accused.

On June 16, the court asked CID to investigate the murder in response to the no-confidence petition against the Rab probe.
