Mass hearings on the abductions and killings of seven people in Narayanganj last month will be held at the office of the district’s deputy commissioner on May 12 and 15.

A circulation has been issued in this regard today, said Abdul Kashem Mohammad Mohiuddin, secretary member of the probe body which has been formed to comply with a High Court order to investigate the seven-murder.

The interested persons have been asked to be present at the DC office on the respective days to give their depositions before the probe body.  

Meanwhile, the seven-member committee headed by Md Shahjahan Ali Mollah, additional secretary of the public administration ministry, recorded statements of family members and relatives of the seven victims including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sharker at the DC office, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.

On April 27, seven people -- Nazrul Islam and his four associates and Chandan Sarker and his driver -- were kidnapped separately, but around the same time from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road. Six bodies were found in the Shitalakkhya river three days later and another the next day.

The other victims are: Moniruzzaman, Tajul Islam, Liton, Ibrahim, and Jahangir.

In another development, Manzill Murshid, president of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, submitted a memorandum to the DC office for ensuring security and assistance for the family members and witnesses.

In the memorandum, he also urged the government to cancel the business licences of the accused people.

The high-powered probe body has been formed after the High Court on May 5 passed an order to form a high-powered committee to probe into the brutal killings of Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and five others.

The HC order came after a lawyer placed before it news reports of different dailies on the abduction and killing of the seven people in Narayanganj and Rab men's alleged involvement.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on May 4 formed a probe team led by its Additional Director General (administration) Aftab Uddin to see if any of its members was complicit in the abduction and murder.

Police is yet to arrest six accused in the seven-murder case -- Nur Hossain, Haji Yasin, Iqbal Hossain, Hasmat Ali Hashu, Aminul Islam Raju and Anwar.

Of them, Hossain is ward-4 councillor of Narayanganj and vice-president of Siddhirganj thana Awami League.
