A Netrakona court yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife and son in 2003.

The convict is Hashem, 35, son of Iman Ali of Satia village in Sadar upazila, reports our correspondent.

According to the prosecution, Hashem killed his wife Aysha, 35, and 11-month-old son Tariku following a family feud on the night of November 9, 2003. He later dumped the bodies in a nearby jungle.

On that day, Rabeya Khatun, sister of Aysha of Dudhkura village, filed a murder case with Sadar police station, accusing Hashem.

After investigation, police submitted charge sheet to the court against Hashem on January 7 the following year.

After examining witnesses and evidence, Additional District and Session Judge Abdul Hamid found Hashem guilty and pronounced the verdict.

In Munshiganj, a court yesterday awarded five people life imprisonment in Abdur Rahman killing case, reports our correspondent.

The lifers are Belal, 35, Motilal, 35, Abdul Hannan, 35, Md Rahman, 32 and Manik, 30. Of them, Manik remained absconding.

Hazi Abdur Rahman was killed at Kolkata Bhogdia village in Louhajong upazila on June 28 in 2009, said public persecutor Ajoy Chakrabarty.
