Man gets death penalty for raping, killing woman in Ctg

A Chittagong court yesterday sentenced a man to death for murdering a woman after raping her in Banshkhali upazila in 1999.
The convict, Abdur Rahim of the upazila, is on the run.
Chittagong Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Md Rezaul Karim passed the verdict, said Jesmin Akhter, special public prosecutor (PP) of the tribunal.
According to the verdict, the victim visited Rahim's family on March 24, 1999 as their families had a good relationship. Rahim then took the victim to Chhapachhari village on pretence of showing her the area and raped her there. He then stabbed her and left the body there.
The following day, the victim's mother filed a murder case accusing Rahim.
Police submitted the charge sheet on November 4 of the same year while the charges were framed on March 25, 2001.
