Main accused in Dhudu Soren killing case held

The detectives arrested the main accused in Dhudu Soren murder case from Kashimpur area of Gazipur district early Friday, police said.

The arrestee is Md Abdul Gaffar, 45, son of Gulzar Hossain of Kushdah-Khalippur village in Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Dinajpur DB led by Bazlur Rashid raided Kashimpur area in Gazipur early Friday and arrested Gaffar.
Police produced Gaffar in a Dinajpur court yesterday, seeking seven days' remand for him. Sub-Inspector Bazlur Rashid, of Dinajpur DB said the hearing on the remand prayer will be held today.
Dhudu Soren, 56, was stabbed to death in Hili Dangapara area in the upazila by a gang of land grabbers led by Abdul Gaffar on August 2.
Later, his son Rabi Soren filed a murder case with Nawabganj Police Station, accusing Gaffar and seven others. Police arrested Gaffar's wife Hawa Begum from Kushdah-Khalippur village on August 3. The case was handed over to DB on August 26.
The indigenous people of Dinajpur held several rallies and processions, demanding arrest of the killers of Dhudu Soren. His father and brother were also murdered by land grabbers in 1975 and 2011.
