Walls and ladders

An easy and beautiful way to furnish the walls of artistic homes is by using a plethora of pretty ladders. A ladder can be incredibly versatile, as well as good looking. Ladders, willing to wear many hats, can be much more than just an aid to the 'vertically challenged'.

Paint the ladders in bold red, cobalt blue or daring orange to express your quirky side. Lacquer them with blacks, greys and whites for a sleeker look or leave an antique ladder just the way it is if you desire a more rustic look.

Here are a few ways to step up your repurposing game and put ladders to good use:

Bookcases
Put wooden boards across each rung of a ladder. If you have two identical ladders, put them side by side and connect them by putting wooden boards across the rungs of both. Place books on them to create a cool industrial-edged bookcase.

Display quilts
Winter is coming. To keep warm on chilly nights while adding a crafty pop of colour to your living room, drape pretty patterned blankets and quilts on the rungs of a ladder propped against the wall.

Group greenery
If you have a love for potted plants but have little outdoor space to keep them, arranging them vertically is a very good idea. Display your favorite herbs and blooms in a pretty painted step ladder.

Bathroom storage
Try leaning a crisp white ladder against the wall for bathroom shelving that won't take up too much space. Drape towels across the rungs and use it as a chic substitute for a towel rack or place wicker baskets on the rungs to organise toiletries neatly.

In the bedroom
Bedside tables usually do not have enough space for all the items that are just quite not worth leaving the bed for. Place a short stepladder with wooden boards on the rungs next to your bed for ample space to keep your lamps, alarm clock and bedtime reads handy.
