The Walk of Style and Comfort

Rummaging through my sister's wedding photo album, I noticed how she cleverly selected different shoes for each of her 'special' looks. Her shoes complemented the dresses and jewellery, further accentuating the appearance.

As per tradition, the groom's family shops for the bride and vice versa. One has to take a lot of things into consideration before shopping for the couple's footwear. Firstly, the shoes have to be bought after everything thing else has been purchased, namely the dress, the jewellery and the accessories. The second option that comes into mind is the comfortability and third is the budget.

WOMEN

Women wear different kinds of shoes as per the demand of the ceremony and the type of dress she chooses to wear. Colours like gold and silver are preferred most since weddings saris and lehengas are in that colour or have special embroidery done in the same shades.

Even though most wedding shoes are limited to stilettos, one can avert from the traditionals; tall women can wear flat sandals, chic pumps sport a modern impression while kitten heels will look elegant.

As for local shoe brands under the radar, it is no surprise that Apex stands out as one of the market leaders. For the discerning bride Apex may serve as a one-stop- solution to her 'footwear-woes'. Moochie, is a choice brand for all bride's wedding needs and provides a unique blend of style, glam and comfort.

The stilettos - never out of fashion yet never the same, are some of their most sought after designs. Gold in all their glitzy style in the current trend; but rose-gold is proving to be equally popular. With intricate beadworks, stone and glass work, these shoes shall add to the style quotient to any bride's wedding trousseau.

MEN

Simple sandals in brown or black look perfect at the Holud ceremony but the main attractions are the 'nagras', which go extremely well with time-honoured sherwanis. The pointy shoes embrace fine patterns of zari embroidery, colourful beads, mirrors and use of shells. At the reception, grooms prefer to wear classic suits and formal footwear.

Apex not only represent international trends but also sets a high note for the local shoe industry. Their dressy shoes with a burnished finish is as essential for the groom's wedding attires, as are the suede moccasins all stylish men put on these days with panjabis. The clientele's preference on the shape of the shoes is well reflected in the broad range of formalwear.

Malls like Bashundhara city, Pink City, Shimanto Square and Metro Shopping, etc. has a lot of branded shoe shops which can be visited to buy footwear for both the bride and the groom. The 'Jutapotti' at Elephant Road has a number of varieties to pick from. Rakhee Shoes, is famous for its imported nagras in various colours and designs. Gorgeous stilettos adorned with jewels can be spotted at Khazana and Almas, Cats Eye and KR.

Aarong, Bata and Apex have good quality sandals and formal shoes for the grooms. If you want good quality leather shoes, Leatherex has a wonderful collection in the shades of pecan and walnut brown. Shops like Vasavi, KR, Celebrations, and Shimmer might be a bit expensive, but their collection certainly contains products of magnificence and class.

Finding the right pair of shoes can be a lot of hassle, but when you finally slip into one, clad in the perfect wedding attire, ready for the big day then believe in your heart that it is going to be an excellent evening.
