The Head Table You Desire
Considering you are the parent of a bride-to-be or a hopeful groom, it is imperative that you take care of the wedding decorations. No matter what your plans are regarding the guest tables at the wedding, the head table decorations should be able to trump them all. This is the table where the bride and the groom will sit with their close ones, which includes you as well.
Hence, this particular table must be easily distinguishable from the rest of the tables at the wedding reception. At the same time you cannot overdo your decorations as a head table should not be far more elaborate than the other tables or it will seem brazen and overdone: balance is the key.
THE PLAIN AND THE SOPHISTICATED
The head table can have an interesting backdrop, such as a white background with the initials of the bride and groom adjoining it in a glitzy golden hue. The table can have the brightest of white table skirts and covers, with white roses, carnations and hibiscus arranged in the crystal vases. There can be a Victorian chandelier, focusing light at the centre.
THE GLAMOROUS COUNTER
The backdrop can be lavishly created with wild flowers of different colours. There can be fairy lights integrated into the designs, creating an overall dream-like ambience. The table covers and skirt can be in scarlet or maroon. The materials used can be luxurious velvet. Matched with the table cover, red roses can fill up the exquisite flower vases. Consecutively, elaborate candle stands can be used to decorate the tables. The stands can be upgraded with pearls and strings of crystal.
THE CONTEMPORARY
The modern bride and groom like things absolutely different; if flowers are the usual norm for decoration, they would probably skip this major option. So does that mean a dull and drab head table or none at all?
Of course not! One modern style incorporates plain silver coloured brocade table cover and banquet chair covers. Nothing fancy needs to be added to this look as the sleekness will be its exclusivity.
GREEN WEDDING
Many 'deshi' weddings are taking place in the outdoors. The head tables in most of these weddings incorporate the raw wooden tables without any covers, skirts or runners. Wildflowers are placed on top of simple and effortlessly coloured vases. The banquet chairs can be jazzed up with green, white or any other soothing coloured ribbons.
We discussed with the creative designer of Ikebana, Nilufar Faruque Nina, to get a glimpse of the current trends. The expert provided us with a helpful tip. "The culture has certainly changed over the years. Nowadays, we require two separate head tables; one to accommodate the elders – the murubbis and another one to accommodate the friends of the bride and the groom. Therefore, the event manager must take this fact into consideration to prevent seating chaos at the venue".
