Bold bangs

It is a fact universally acknowledged that a new haircut breathes new life into one's appearance. Hair is literally the crowning glory of one's overall appearance, and hence a new hairstyle makes a world of difference.

While we all, at times, want to throw caution out the window and get that much-coveted-but-never-attained bob, it might not be the best idea.

For one thing, it may not be suitable for one's face shape, and it may be highly impractical and entirely unsuitable for one's personality and lifestyle. That is where bangs come into play. A little snip here, a little cut there – is all one needs in order to feel brand new. What is more, it requires zero maintenance, does not carry the commitment involved with a completely new haircut and grows out in no time, in case you have regrets!

Bangs have been trendy for a while now, and are hotter than ever this year. The cardinal rule in fashion has always been reinvention, and it is no different for bangs. The old, blunt schoolgirl bangs have been replaced by new styles and shapes that cater to most face shapes.

To begin with, baby bangs that end halfway through the forehead suit round and oval shaped faces. It makes quite a style statement; think Audrey Hepburn in movies like Sabrina and Funny Face.

Most appropriate with the shorter haircut, this style suits experimental women who like to play around with their look.

A light hold hairspray and a small barrel round brush helps them look stylish all day long.

Mid-length bangs are slightly longer and piecey, and usually complement oval and longer faces. This style looks best when kept parted in the middle. Shoulder-length or longer hair looks good with mid-length bangs.

After blow-drying a little bit of matte pomade can be used to separate the bangs at the end to keep them fresh and styled all day long.

A long, side-swept bang touches the nose, and is universally flattering on most face shapes. Sweet and feminine, this style is a safe bet for those who do not want a major change in their look. It looks the best when the ends are a bit soft, kind of grown-in.

A large barrel brush can be used to give it some body and a shine spray will add some sheen.

A few tricks to keep in mind before getting bangs - try not to get DIY-happy! Trust a professional stylist to get best results. For this section of hair is in the very front of the face and a sloppy job will cause a lot of tears and heartache that usually accompany a bad haircut!

Doing some research on the internet helps, as does taking a picture to the stylist for inspiration. Lastly, bangs need a little bit of styling so get the ones most suitable to your face shape, and make styling them a part of your daily haircare regime to look and feel your best!
