Shopping during the pandemic

With the shops reopening, it’s no surprise that people are turning to shopping malls because Eid is almost here. We’ve always been a festive nation and Eid is one of the biggest festivals here, so the Eid shopping has to match that festivity.

That's how it normally goes, but these are not normal times. However, if you are really inclined to go shopping, here's what you should consider —

Is it really necessary?

We implore you to ask yourself this very question — is it really necessary? Grocery shopping is one thing because they are absolutely necessary but how badly do you need that pink shirt? Surely you can survive a few months without it. We understand that getting compliments like — "That dress is worth dying for" brings a certain joy but how literally are you willing to take that?

Save up for a rainy day

The number of people that have lost their jobs and business during these troubling times is astounding. And the pandemic is still raging and constantly threatening to turn into something worse (if that's possible). The only thing certain at the moment is uncertainty. That being said, perhaps it is wise to skip the shopping for once and save up for a rainy day that might come knocking sooner than imagined.

Prioritise, minimise, and sanitise

If you decide that you really do need to shop, then make a list. Cut the list to the most needed items. Prioritise based on necessity and if you can manage it, finish your shopping as soon as possible. Once you are home, we recommend that you sanitise your outfit as well as whatever item that you've bought. Better safe than sorry.

Avoid window shopping

Yes, we remember how blissful it is to go out with your friends, get a bite with a bit of gossip followed by window shopping. It's a whole different experience that many has grown accustomed to, but have we mentioned that we are going through a pandemic? Don't be that person — not this Eid at least. If you are going shopping, go with an objective and a list. Avoid random wandering.

Carry the safety kits

Shopping can be exhausting itself. Not to mention carrying all the bags. But if you are going for it, please carry the safety kits with you. No matter how uncomfortable they make you, wear your mask, and carry hand sanitisers. Don't be lazy about safety.

Don't gang up

If you are going to buy a shirt, there's no reason why there should be three of you in the shop. Leave the children and elderly at home. Don't go in groups like you are going camping. Reduce your numbers.

Online Shopping

Have you considered that there's a safer option for shopping that reduces exposure? Surely you are no stranger to online shopping and it has become a really popular concept lately. So why not have a go at it when it's actually a good idea? You can get your products delivered at home— safety and comfort in one package.

We'll leave it up to you in hopes that you'll reconsider your decision (before you eventually go out to shop) and take the seriousness of the pandemic into account. Be responsible, stay inside and stay safe.
