what I did last week

Nostalgia avenue

WRECK-IT RALPH

I am one of those people who grew up under the proverbial rock, so the first time I witnessed Ralph's wrecking prowess was last week.

In a text-book, or rather video game, “villain's” quest to be accepted by his cohorts, and be part of the celebratory party at the end of a long working day, I found again the importance of balance —the fixer is only useful as the wrecker exists. Also, I found the seemingly childish animation to beautifully present the difficult, or trope, concept of being born to a destiny, and finally changing it, against all odds.

Although even the mighty-armed Ralph needed the partnership of sweet Vanellope to truly find his self-worth. And the blossoming of love between Fix-It Felix Jr and Calhoun, as clichéd as it was, reinforces the belief that love can blossom anywhere.

FRIENDS

When feeling the blues, watching Friends is among my mantras, along with a chunk of sugar and such personal remedies. Randomly re-watching episodes of this mother-of-all-sitcoms never fails to bring a smile, or even some laughter, to the viewers' countenance, my friends will certainly agree! Although, beware the episodes that can potentially break your heart, as you make the characters a part of your life and feel for them. Phoebe is my favourite, I wish I could say stuff like “I wish I could, but I don't want to.”

Here is to embracing the Phoebe in all of us.
