Meet the green at Brikkho Mela 2019

Ever wondered what it would feel like to be drowning in greens? Free from the urban hustle, and the polluted air. Where there is greenery as far as the eye can see and the air overflowing with floral scents. Where the mind meets serenity, chucking away all your worries.

If all that sounds appealing, then look no further then ‘Brikkho Mela.’ This annual tree fair is held on the national parade ground in Agargaon. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the program, titled ‘The National Tree Plantation Campaign and Fair-2019’ at BICC in Agargaon.

With around 104 public and private nurseries, this year’s ‘Brikkho Mela’ commenced its journey on 20 June, and will last till 20 July.

As soon as you arrive at the place, your senses will be greeted with greenery and floral aromas. From orchids, bonsais to Egyptian sweet fig, dragon fruit, it serves you with a wide range of plants. And it just isn’t about plants, the stalls also assist you with gardening equipment, fertilizers, seeds and books about nurturing them at home.

DC Nursery & Services is among one of the stalls, and one of the leading producers of plants in Bangladesh. According to manager director, Dipok Kuman Nath, the demands for ornamental plants and rooftop gardening plants are rising. They have a collection of around ten thousand ornamental plants, along with some rare local and foreign species.

One of the visitors, Obaidullah Haseeb, shared his experiences of buying an orchid and being bewitched with the enhanced art and decoration of the fair this time, saying, “I’m beguiled with the wide range of collections this time.”

Urban green areas are losing their exclusively aesthetic and scenic significance. Rooftop gardening is, therefore, an opportunity to grow agricultural crops rather than decorative plants. With that in mind, visiting ‘Brikkho Mela’ should be on the top of your list.
