Digitising food delivery, evolving lifestyle choices

With the work force now seeing a surge of younger professionals, convenience has now become the most priortised element.

It is no surprise that Bangladesh has seen a rise in various food delivery services. These services allow Bangladeshis to order food from their favourite restaurants online and have it delivered to their home, without the hassle of spending time in traffic and waiting in queue for the food. The delivery companies are now offering more choices, improved quality, transparency, and above all else, convenience.

Stating the scenario, Maruf Hasan Nirzhor, owner of Chillox stated, "Food is one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in Bangladesh. People prefer socialising and catching up with friends and family over a hearty meal. Through the food delivery service, it is possible for everyone to order their choice of cuisine while watching a movie with friends or socialising with families."

Furthermore, to meet the rising demand of the food delivery service, many more businesses around Bangladesh have launched their food delivery services through smartphone apps. Shohoz Food is one such service, that signed up over 1,000 restaurants around Dhaka city and has a dedicated team of over 200 deliverymen to fulfil the needs of customers and restaurant owners.

Avishek Sinha, owner of Kurry Accent, commented, "Lack of time creates demand in the food delivery market. The growing working population has led to increasingly busier lifestyles. As a result, a large portion of consumers in Dhaka have shifted their preferences to food that is easy to prepare, or simply, food that can be ordered. We are pleased to sign up with Shohoz Food and through them, we are able to deliver our customers their favorite meal right at their doorstep."

It is likely that this convenience pattern and on-the-go snacking will continue, driven by time pressure and busy schedules. In Bangladesh, ordering food online is becoming widespread among people, the concept is thriving and the trend is expected to intensify more in the future.
