Ariana Vafadari enchants Dhaka

Franco-Iranian singer Ariana Vafadari performed in Dhaka's Shilpakala Academy on February 27, 2018 as part of her world tour. The mezzo-soprano singer has performed in operas, and concerts as well as other international festivals. Her most remarkable work has been her renditions of Gathas.

Gathas are the prayers of Zoroastrianism, the religion of Ancient Persia, originally from philosopher and prophet- Zarathustra. These compositions are surprisingly modern, expressing the life, doubts and choices of a man. As there are no records of the way they were sung originally, Ariana Vafadari composed every song according to radifs or oriental scales. It results in music that constantly vibrates between its Oriental foundations and their matching Western opera.

Vafadari's performance gave Dhaka's audience a one-of-a-kind experience. Previously, she performed in Chittagong on February 24 and 25. Her performances were accompanied by three French musicians playing oud, double bass and drums.
