For her

Does what you wear on dates really matter? Resoundingly, yes. Dressing yourself reflects who you are and gives us a tiny glimpse of the person residing within.

The ultimate formula to look fabulous on dates is more obscure than it seems. With the 'dress to impress' pressure weighing down on you, it is only natural that you find yourself scouring your wardrobe in hopes to find the ideal outfit that will set just the right impression.

The key is to simplify classic silhouettes but not so much as to dumb down your personal style. Before opting to bust out a full runway look, think about the vibes you want to portray on the date. A flattering colour, minimal makeup and straight hair slicked back will always have your back. However, you are always welcome to be more adventurous with your finished look. Avoid looking disheveled or stressed out. The ultimate goal here is to achieve the effortless "I just threw this on" vibe.

A classic choice that can do no wrong is traditional wear like A-line or asymmetrical kurtis. Venturing into tie-neck denim blouses or off-shoulder shirts with detached sleeves paired with skinny jeans are other welcome wardrobe choices. You can even keep it chic with a sheer cape and denim jeans or don a summer go-to, floral-printed maxi dress with the perfect amount of pleats for a great playful look.

A vintage concert tee and a cardigan perfectly complement a casual coffee-shop date. Sport platform slippers or converse and the advantage goes beyond comfort; you can also gauge height differences on first dates!

A formal lunch date or a fancy dinner rendezvous, however, does well with a vibrant silhouette of traditional wear and monochrome prints, a long, shirt dress in silk or even a georgette printed gown. A pair of wedges or espadrille heels with natural makeup and statement accessories kept to a minimum and you are sure to steal the spotlight.

Confidence with a little strategy put into your attire and the puzzling debate on what to really wear on dates magically answers itself!

For him

Congratulations! You have passed the preliminary stages of getting into a relationship and about to enter round one — going out on dates with your partner. It can be your first date or your gazillionth, but looking good cannot be compromised. Your look should depend entirely on the time, weather, and occasion, and of course the venue.

It's a jolly good morning and you are out to have breakfast. For an occasion as light as this, you can wear the classic summer look, white T-shirt along with black chinos and white sneakers. If it's during winter, just add a navy blue bomber jacket to your look and activate the 'compliment magnet'.

They say that the way to a woman's heart is through pizza. You have chosen the perfect pizza place to go on a lunch date; now, all you need to do is look good. Given that you are going out on a casual lunch, you can keep the same outfit on and wear a dark denim shirt and leave it unbuttoned. Or, if you want a change, wear an olive green shirt along with a pair of light grey corduroy pants and black boots. You will stand out and look stunning.

The sky has turned grey with the rain clouds gathering and the slight, bracing breeze is caressing your hair, setting up the ideal recipe for a romantic outdoor evening date to a place like Butler's Cafe. A lightweight ash shirt with scattered prints of paisley along with a dark pair of chinos and converse will give you a cosy and refreshing look; just like the weather.

Night time is the most common time to go out on dates, yet people tend to make the mistake of going over the top with their look. The idea is not to over-dress by wearing a suit and tie. Since it is night time, a restaurant leaning towards the higher end is preferred by many. If you are going to a place like Thai Emerald, wear a band collared white shirt tucked in with a nicely fitted pair of navy blue chinos and a pair of brown tassel loafers. However, if you are going to somewhere fancier, like Le Méridien Dhaka or The Westin, simply add a grey blazer to look dapper as ever. This way, you are not overdressed and all the attention does not come on to you.

Now you know it! Waste no more time and take your partner out on beautiful dates which will not only be memorable for how much effort you put in decorating the rooftop with fairy lights and a canopy tent made from a shimmery white cloth, but also because of how good you looked.

Hold on to that thought for a while! Before all of this happens, you need to impress her on the first date. For your first date, pick a nice place with lighting which stimulates the 'love' cells of your brain. A good place would be Umai. The food is top notch and the venue allows you to be flexible with how you style your look.

Try to go on a dinner date and wear blue shirt along with a beige pair of trousers. Top the look off with brown monk strap shoes and of course brown leather belt and wrist watch. This look is not too formal and not too casual, just the right balance of everything to make your date go gaga!

First impression is the last however, girls look for consistency. Try putting some effort into looking presentable on all the dates you go to since it shows that you are enjoying the moment and cherishing the company.  Do not ruin a memorable date by wearing skinny jeans and a pair of slides, that's just a big no!
