Perfecting the Falgun look
The end of another drab winter and the beginning of a verdant spring - Pohela Falgun, the first day of the Bengali month of Falgun, brings along with itself a stream of vibrant colours and haul of festivals.

SETTING TRENDS IN TIE N' DYE
Tie n' dye saris have always remained in fashion, despite their simplicity. The colours and prints spreading out across the torso from their deepest to lightest tones seem vivid yet sophisticatedly subtle. Tawny yellow or yellow ochre shades are best suited on this occasion for this type of sari. Whether you decide to let your hair down or tie it up, make sure to adorn yourself with some oxidized silver jewellery (earrings and bangles) to complete the look.

KEEPING IT SIMPLE IN SILK
Silk saris should be your 'plan A' if you are trying to stay comfy, yet stylish. An authentic printed matka silk sari with a trichromatic (mixture of saffron yellow, chestnut brown and bright red) scheme can be chosen. A pair of small gold/gold plated jhumkas should suffice to be all set for the day.

TRAIPSING IN TIMELESS TAANT
To have a timeless and graceful look, Taant is undoubtedly irreplaceable. Keeping a monochromatic theme in mind, try out a subtle yellow or green taant sari with basic paisleys or flowers printed across the sari's 'zamin' (torso).
A jade taant sari with a striking golden 'paar' (border) is a choice that will surely make you stand out.
Team it up with plain gold/gold plated jewellery to enhance your look. You can tie down your hair in a plain ponytail and plaid a string of marigolds through it to add a bold Falgun essence.

You can style up a customised look in a chiffon sari or shalwar kameez with ease. To have a unique outfit, drape around a lime green or lime yellow shaded chiffon sari and couple it up with a blouse in vibrant floral print. For those who do not have the time or willpower to go through draping a sari early in the morning and managing it all day, kurtis or one-piece kameezs can be life savers. You can sport a primrose yellow kurti with white leggings and still have a look just as trendy with zero sari hassle.

Reasonably priced readymade one piece/kurtis are also sold at Badruddoja (Doja) Market (opposite Dhaka College) and you can also order custom-made embroidered kurtis with your own material from Priyangon Shopping Centre (Mirpur Road, opposite Science Laboratory). Besides these, you can drop by Doyel Silk (Mirpur Road, right next to Alliance Francaise, Dhaka) to avail topnotch silk saris. There are also plenty of good kurti sellers online, especially on facebook pages, offering you endless choices.
