The Baishakhi Bonanza

All of us remember how even two years ago, we planned for the perfect Pahela Baishakh. At least two to three pairs of clothing would be spread out on the couch for try-outs, at least a week before the special occasion. We all knew how we had to look our best 'on one of the most festive days' of the year; the outfit preparations would go on for the longest time, via countless hours of phone conversations between girlfriends and multiple visits to the shopping mall.

While this year, the pandemic reminds us again how sombre the festivities will be, it should not override our happiness. We should be able to repeat all the fun of the 'good-old-days,' in a new format, in a new style.

There's no need to stay upset. Let's enjoy the beautiful day like any other year, wear the choicest of clothes and enjoy the best of Bangladeshi food and share our ordeal with friends — online. Let's beat the pandemic psychologically and not let it take over our lives. Let's remind ourselves again that days of fun and frolic are right around the corner, all we need to do for the moment

is wait, maintain hygiene and prioritise social distancing.
