Fashion from the - Game of Thrones

As every GOT fan knows by heart, the winds of winter are upon us. With its gust fast approaching as the seventh season premiered, on the 16th Sunday, the speculation of what awaits continued to test our patience. For the solitary sake of covering all of our bases, Game of Thrones is a medieval fantasy drama adapted from the epic books of George R. R. Martin.

In between all the cries, gasps and eternal questions of who is dead or alive, the timeless fashion and style sported on the show have had their fair share in the limelight, to say the least.

From the capes, gowns and furry coats that are North-of-the-Wall chic to the extravagant jewellery, statement belts and flamboyant garments native to the luxuries of the capital; no show leaves a more lasting impression than the Game of Thrones when it comes to costumes.

The attention to finer details, modern-time inspirations from cultures, pins and brooches to symbolise supremacy, even colours to denote strength and mystery; all are committed to display and reflect the individual characters in their true light. Even the iconic braids serve a purpose of their own in signifying prowess and victory. To say that a lot of thought is put in constructing the theatre of it all will be nothing short of a massive understatement.

The influential garments and couture pieces expertly donned in the period piece have inspired runway masterpieces in the western world. But to walk the streets of Dhaka tipping our hats to the silhouettes of exaggerated garments and outrageously sheer fabrics is a whole other story. However, the absolute adulation of the intricate outfits and armours worn by the fictional characters still and shall always remain unchanged.

Costumes tell a story. And while the iconic Cersei Lannister is considered to be a trendsetter with her timeless golden and black gowns, the flamboyant textures and lavish, even when sombre attires of the other key characters are admired just the same.

Of course we are in complete admiration of the theatre of the costumes coupled with the brilliant storytelling.

Although less may be more, it's baffling how simple clothes bring about such a huge difference and for a cinematic production such as the Game of Thrones, where the exact and utter opposite couldn't be truer.
