If your wanderlusting self is always looking for adventure but happens to be constrained by the busy schedules of the hectic city life, why not try doing something within the city itself?

Excruciating traffic, the scorching heat or the pouring rain are hardly excuses anymore!

Thousand Miles Expeditions, which aims to promote responsible adventure tourism, brings to you a unique opportunity to rediscover your city and push yourself to the limits in a way never done before.

Dhaka Challenge 2017, organised by Thousand Miles Expeditions, and co-organised by Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and Bangladesh Tourism Board, is the first ever Triathlon happening right at the heart of the city combining swimming, running and cycling  at one go to give you the adrenaline boost neededfor a healthier lifestyle.

Microsoft Bangladesh is the main sponsor for the event while the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Police will be providing intensified security for a safe and successful event.

The event consists of a 400 meter swim which starts at Dhaka University swimming pool, followed by a 32 km cycle ride along a given route. The triathlon ends with an 8 km run which brings the participants to the iconic Hatirjheel, Police Plaza.

Dhaka Challenge 2017 also includes a duathlon, which is a combination of cycling and running. The duathlon starts at the Hatirjheel area and consists of 5 km running followed by a 20km cycling, finally ending with another 2.5km of running.

While the main event will take place on Friday, October 27, the contestants had to go through a qualifying round earlier, where they had to swim a full 400 meters and also undergo a comprehensive medical fitness check-up.

Since both the activities take place against a continuously running clock, the participants had to be persistent in their training and began practicing as early as 3 months before the main event to build up their endurance.

With more and more Dhaka citizens becoming health conscious, it is no surprise that the sign-up, which happened on a first-come-first-serve basis, lasted only two days before the event reached its maximum number of participants.

The organisers believe that this kind of event will give the appropriate boost to start being more active in life and also give an opportunity to enjoy sports in a fun competitive manner.

Such events allow scope for healthier community-building and with the iconic destinations picked for the event, there is no doubt that the event will promote Dhaka on an international platform.

The winners from the 'duathlon-triathlon challenge' will be awarded exciting prizes from Thousand Miles Expeditions and all the athletes taking part and completing the challenges are going to be rewarded with medals and certificates.

However, this is merely a start!

Thousand Miles Expeditions plan on hosting such events every year, and with time, you can only expect it to get bigger and more festive.
