TOP STYLING RULES EVERY MAN SHOULD KNOW

Imagine you are at a wedding, all suited. Up comes a friend, casually commenting on your mismatched shoes and belt. Your friend just stole your thunder, putting you in a ridiculously embarrassing situation. Who wants to fall into a pit of shame? No one. So, to avoid this, all men must follow a set of rules to dress impeccably.

EARTHY AND SLEEK – BAD IDEA

Now, here is a hard and fast rule, if you are wearing a black suit, do not wear brown shoes or belt with it. The contrast is too distinct, taking all the attention away from your face, all the way down to your shoes. In addition, this combination of colour just is not right.

However, some argue that it is fine to wear brown shoes (in dark shades) with black when it comes to casual wear. But, I personally beg to differ as this colour combination — regardless of the shade they are in, is just not right.

DISCOVERED NOT ANNOUNCED

Let's get one thing out of the way, men wear colognes while women wear perfumes. Now that we have cleared that confusion, let's get back to what we need to say.

"Fragrance should be discovered not announced," is a saying which has come down for years. The idea is to spray them on regions of our body which generate the most heat (pulse points) so that they can evaporate well and make you smell good all day. So spray them on both your wrists, neck and behind your ears to smell attractive for hours.

FITTED DOES NOT MEAN TIGHT

You need to wear suits, pants, shirts such that they give you a defined silhouette. You do not want your clothes to be so tight that they force you to move like a robot or so baggy that they make you look short and like a ball. With comfort comes confidence and with confidence, you carry yourself well.

MATCH THEM RIGHT

If you are wearing formals, make sure that you match leather with leather and metal with metal. If you are wearing leather shoes, belt and leather strapped watch, make sure they are of the same colour. In addition, give some attention to the colour of your watch's metal case/belt and match it with that of your belt's buckle.

When it comes to casual wear, you have more liberty matching the aforementioned accessories. Simply match them such that the colours go well.

BONUS TIPS: WARDROBE ESSENTIALS

WATCH

Not just as a style statement but also to check the time, you simply cannot make do without a watch. If you are on a budget, buy a versatile watch like a Daniel Wellington or MVMNT, all available at Daraz.com.

BLACK V-NECK T-SHIRT

The V-collar adds masculinity and uniqueness. These will work well with pants coming in any colour and style along with the comfort it provides.

WHITE OXFORD SHIRT

The best part about these shirts is that you can dress up or down your outfit wearing this. You can tuck it in and wear it with a tie or simply wear it untucked with chinos or jeans. In addition, the white goes with any coloured pants.

BLACK PLEATED BELT

The reason why you should opt for this type of belt is because it's the perfect middle ground between formal and casual.

CHINOS

Had I been asked a few weeks ago, I would have said that navy blue chinos are a staple. But, ever since I watched Teaching Men's Fashion's video, I have a different opinion now.

Khakis are what you should opt for because they provide the same versatility as a pair of navy blue chinos, however they differ in their uniqueness as people wear this colour rarely.

JEANS

So, why did I not pick a pair of navy blue chinos? That is because I will be picking a dark blue pair of jeans. This will add dimension to your outfit and open up new avenues for you to styling your look. Now, you will have pants in khaki colour and dark blue.

WHITE SNEAKERS

Just like a white shirt, you can sport these with almost any outfit you want to. White has become the new black.
