An inexpensive guide to mood-lifting décor changes

After a long day of work and hassle, we come to our homes to rest and recalibrate. The inner space of our humble dwellings is intimately connected to our physical and mental well-being; and so, we can unanimously agree that the home décor evokes both positive and negative emotions and immensely impacts our mood.

My home always reminds me of the fundamental necessities of life: to breathe, rest and cultivate joy — nevertheless, I also find my home décor to have become boring (after quite some time) and in need of some essential changes. So, here's a budget-friendly guide to bring lively and uplifting décor changes to our home.

Warm vibrations of books

A beautifully stacked up row of books or bookshelf is a sheer pleasure to the eyes and books can illuminate any room with an intellectual aura. If you have books, don't hesitate to use them as decorative additions to the room. Books can easily find a home anywhere—they just need to be placed thoughtfully. I occasionally use them as a decorative ornament by placing them on a coffee table or dining table.

Plants are your best friend

Who doesn't like the pleasant company of colourful plants and flowers! To me, plants symbolise life and colour. Hence, instead of opting for artificial plants, we should consider adorning our humble abodes with live plants. The style of furnishing and colour combination of the interior should be kept in mind while choosing the perfect plant for any home as the sine qua non.

Beauty of antique furniture

Antique furniture always reminds me of my grandmother: beautifully aged and elegant. Vintage pieces and antique furniture emanate a nostalgic vibe—they bring the beauty of history and heritage to any home. So, why not consider using the antique furniture that you have inherited or have "rescued" from a flea market. This will certainly give the interior a mixture of nostalgia and uniqueness.

Decluttering for blissfulness

Ever heard of the 'KonMari' method? This method states that if certain things or items 'don't spark joy', you should throw them away from your home. And we can largely benefit from this method as a cluttered house or space always creates mental chaos. How about doing a sweep of the bedroom, living room and kitchen and getting rid of the items that haven't been used for a long time—or even better, you can donate or sell the items that you no longer need. This will create more space and generate mental peace.

With all that being said, we all have our personal taste and style; so, don't shy away from channelling your personal touch by showcasing the snaps (or even illustrations) of your loved ones on an empty wall. By and by—you'll see that after such small but significant changes—how vibrant and joyful you will feel.
