Gilded Glamour

After a hiatus enforced by the pandemic, the Met Gala 2022 saw celebrities come back to the MMA enveloped in trains, statement jewellery and headpieces of their own interpretation of gilded glamour. Most opted for designer costumes, some chose to go green, and some recreated famous pieces from the fashion archives. Either way, other than a few scant instances of fashion faux pas on the red carpet, most of the guests shone in their own gild and glamour at the world's most prestigious fashion event this year. Here are some that we absolutely loved.

Blake Lively

Much like the previous years, the 34-year-old actress absolutely stunned viewers on the red carpet of Met Gala 2022. Arriving in a shimmering rose gold gown with a big bow by Atelier Versace and inspired by the Manhattan's architecture, she proceeded to untie the bow to reveal a gorgeous icy green train, the same shade as the Statue of Liberty. The dramatic moment was further enhanced as she peeled off her rose gloves for a matching pair underneath. Everything from her crown to her gloves symbolised iconic venues from the New York city.

Kim Kardashian

Another look that created ripples at the Gala fundraiser was Kim Kardashian's tribute to America's first sweetheart, Marilyn Monroe. Borrowing from the legend's own wardrobe, Kardashian wanted to recreate Marilyn's bold look from President JFK's birthday back in the 60s. The sparkling translucent look, embellished with over six thousand crystals, was spellbinding. Calling it the "original naked dress," Kardashian did full justice to the historic piece and completed the look in vintage Jean Louis and Cartier jewellery, and blond hair. She kept the rest of her face delightfully nude so as not to take anything away from the glory of her evening wear.

Daisy Edgar Jones

Capturing perfectly Daisy Edgar-Jones' sparkling personality, Oscar de la Renta's Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim outdid themselves with the shimmering number they created for the young actress's first Met look. With layers of crystal fringe and an equally bedazzled body, the dress brought to mind sweet nostalgic memories of the flapper gowns of the 1920s. Keeping in mind the ebullient nature of the actress, the dress exuded an aura of relaxed fashion and complemented her quiet energy. She wore popping eye makeup but kept the rest of her face minimalistic and fresh.

Phoebe Dynevor

Opting for a subtler, more gothic interpretation to the Gilded Glamour theme, the Bridgerton beauty donned a sheer black peplum gown with a high leg slit by Louis Vuitton at her first illustrious Met evening. The frock styled top of the dress gave way to a small lacy train with enviable sequinned embellishments. The actress wore her hair down in waves and chose to go easy on the accessories. With expertly lined eyes and an otherwise simple makeup look, Phoebe's style screamed the "less is more" mantra- a gutsy move on the Met Gala where many choose to pull out all the stops.
