First Aid for Eid ul Azha

Eid brings happiness to those who celebrate but of the two Eids, Eid ul Azha is the one that often leaves us with cuts and bruises. It does not matter how careful you are, people end up with wounds more often than not. Here is how you should prepare for first aid with Eid ul Azha in mind.

Prepare a First Aid Box

While it does say box in the name, it does not necessarily have to be a box. You can make a first aid box even with a zipped-up bag. The objective is to gather the necessary items for first aid treatment.

One can enrich the box with more items and there's always room for improvement, but here are the basic items that you must ensure in your first aid box. First and most importantly — an antiseptic liquid and a tube of antiseptic cream. Cotton, band-aid, gauze rolls, adhesive tape, and a pair of scissors. Once you have got the basic items, you can make your first aid box more efficient by adding items such as gloves, thermometers, over-the-counter medicine for pain, etc.

Practice Caution

Rusty knives, knives that are not sharp should be avoided for several reasons. Not only do they make working more difficult and uncomfortable but also pose a bigger threat. Cut with a rusty object leaves you in danger of developing tetanus. So, make sure you are working with sharp knives. It sounds odd and one may think that sharper knives are more likely to cause cuts but the rusty and blunt knives are more prone to accidents.

Make sure that you have the right accessories and knives for the right job. Using the wrong accessories often make things difficult and believe it or not, the appropriate size of knife is also important. If you cannot handle heavier knives, leave that job to someone who can.

Try to work in dry and clean surroundings. This makes work easier and reduces the risk of accidents as well as post-accident threats.

Immediate Reaction

Assuming that even after being careful you picked up a small cut somehow, reach for your first aid kit as soon as possible. Clean water may be used to wash the wound. Regardless of how small the cut is, clean it with antiseptic. If you delay the treatment, the wound will pick up dirt and it will be more difficult to clean it after a while. This leaves you at risk of being infected, something that can take down even the healthiest of persons.

See a doctor

If the wound does not stop bleeding after ten minutes of applying direct pressure, you should rush to the doctor. If muscle, bone, or fat tissue is visible, then you should see a doctor. If the cut is deeper than a quarter-inch, if the cut was made by a rusty object, if it's a puncture wound made by nails, and if the cut is over a joint, you should see a doctor as soon as possible.

Remember, immediate treatment is crucial and one must try their best to avoid an infection. Infections can be tenacious and extract a heavy toll on the body. A little caution can save you from days of pain. Be safe and be prepared.
