What effective parenting means

Raising a child is indeed a challenging task for most parents. Good parenting means creating an appropriate environment that helps children learn to be responsible for their own attitude, behaviour and action throughout their lives.

Some parents agree to all the demands of their children without even thinking what is best for them, while others dictate everything to them without considering their opinions. Both can be bad for their children. Parents need to develop the necessary skills to nurture the young minds of their children better. There are no hard and fast rules for effective parenting, rather there could be many ways to deal with a child depending on the situation and the psychology of a child. To effectively guide children, parents should encourage a two-way communication. They have to instil qualities such as self-awareness, managing emotions, empathy and social skills in children. Working parents should set aside sufficient time from their busy schedule for their children.

Educational and training programmes should be arranged for parents so that they can learn about effective parenting skills. This will help them in leading their children to build a good and healthy life which will in turn benefit society at large.
