The importance of sex education

We live in one of the most sexually repressed societies in the world. The word “sex” is considered a taboo here; yet we have a population of nearly 20 crores! The widespread availability of pornography along with a lack of sex education is leading to unwanted pregnancies, spread of STDs and sexual malpractices in our country. The exaggerated content of porn videos is also leading people to form unrealistic ideas about sex and sexual pleasure. This unhappy mix has given rise to an alarming number of sexual violence and rape related incidents in the recent years. It is high time we stepped out of our comfort zone and started talking about sex to raise awareness about this so-called taboo issues. Our priority should be to introduce our children to sex education at homes and schools, in order to prevent them from falling victim to the exploitation of corrupt individuals.
