A good move by the ruling party

The positive nod to Oikyafront leaders' formal dialogue proposal is a good decision by the party in power. However, we are sceptical about the outcome of the parley to be held in the backdrop of the current political situation. Our past experience is not sweet. However, we do believe that politicians and political parties will reach a consensus on the upcoming election being held in a free, fair and transparent manner. Political parties should compromise and not be absolutely adamant. Otherwise the dialogue would be fruitless.

Politicians must be prudent and sagacious. They must reach a consensus on the issue of election-time government. This process of dialogue was long overdue. Forty-seven years after independence, we still have an intolerant political culture. We hope that the political parties will put our country's interests first. We all want to see a free, fair, transparent and participatory election.
