Jessore roads in a bad shape

A number of important districts in the southern part of the country are connected to the capital through Jessore, which also provides road connectivity between Kolkata and Dhaka. This important district is connected to the divisional town of Khulna, and other southern districts like Satkhira, Jhenaidah, Benapole, Magura and Narail.

All the roads connecting Jessore, however, have been in a poor condition since the last rainy season. The 15-km-long Jessore-Magura road is full of potholes. The road connecting Khulna is also in a bad shape. It takes three hours to travel this 61-km-long road, whereas earlier it would take only one hour. The same applies to the Jessore-Jhenaidah road.

Roads in adjacent districts are being repaired, but it seems there is no one to repair the roads in Jessore. Recently, there has been an increase in road accidents which could have been prevented had the roads been repaired timely. The authorities concerned should act fast to ensure road safety.
