Plenty of people beat their spouses. It tends to be more common in developing countries and it's not an exclusively 'Muslim' thing.

Did the holy prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ever beat any of his wives? NO. Nowhere in the history of Islam will you find that. Instead, our beloved Prophet was always very loving and caring towards his wives and daughters and he had directed all Muslims to do the same thing. So these so-called Islamic scholars should follow the true teachings of Islam and shouldn't misguide people and give Islam a bad name.
