Letters To The Editor

“Spike in mob killing”

The above titled editorial published in your daily on July 27 caught my attention. Why has the situation come to such a state? The reasons may be as follows:

1. People in general have no respect for law

2. People think that taking the offender to police will bear no                results

3. Reluctance of police officers to take cognizance of offence, record a case and start a meaningful and transparent investigation

Whatever may be the case, it's noteworthy to mention that we are groomed by social institutions like family, school, college, mosques, temples, and cultural institutions. These institutions are failing to build a positive attitude towards the rule of law. For example, the culture of gathering mobs through the microphones of mosques is nothing but instigation. The government must initiate programmes to educate people so that they are not provoked by others to take law into their own hands. Only through respect for the rule of law can we come out of this menace.
