Let an ex-CJ probe Narayanganj killings: BNP

BNP today urged the government to form a three-member team led by a former chief justice to probe the gruesome abduction and killing of seven persons in Narayanganj.
The two other members of the team should be a former cabinet secretary and a human rights activist, said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He was talking to reports after placing wreaths at the grave of the late president Ziaur Rahaman in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar this morning.
The BNP spokesperson also criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for fixing a meeting with the Narayanganj victims’ families on May 14 as BNP Chief Khaleda Zia is scheduled to visit the district on that day to console the family members.
It is "against of the political norms and etiquette", he said while replying to a query from the reporters.
He alleged that the government is using elite force Rapid Action Battalion to commit crimes like abductions, killings and forced disappearances.
"Therefore, question has been raised on whether Rab is necessary for the country," he added.
Earlier in the day, Shahidul Islam, father-in-law of Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam who was among the ill-fated victims, told the mdia that the PM would meet with the victims' families at Gono Bhaban May 14.
On April 27, some people abducted Narayanganj City Corporation councilor and panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his four associates with their car. Senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver, who were following the abductors, were also kidnapped the same time from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road.
